Marking the halfway point in the 2012 Cabot Community Tour, another 2,000 people joined dozens of local organizations to 'Celebrate What Makes Fredericksburg Special', especially what cooperatives do for the community providing opportunities to help those in need.
On an gorgeous and hot afternoon in beautiful Old Mill Park, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative was the hit of the day! They not only brought in the Touchstone hot air balloon, but also had pole climbing and rescue demonstrations.
While AARP's Create the Good set up a “ship” of ribbons where almost 250 people filled out their ribbons of good, Rappahannock United Way offered volunteer opportunities for people of any age. Once again, local credit unions joined forces to offer information and fun activities.
Being in an historic area, community members were dressed in period costumes, musket shooting demonstrations took place, antique craft displays and period dancing and games were a big hit. The animal-petting corner included a dairy cow and her calf from one of the area dairy farmers, a couple of alpacas, a few rescue dogs and for the brave, a bug zoo! Cabot once again offered Cheddar s'mores and a curd making demonstration and the photo booth had a constant line of enthusiastic folks of all ages.
The Fredericksburg Cyclists Club and VA Bicycle Federation offered bike safety tips and arranged to have a local Boy Scouts troop ride into the Park with our through cyclists. Last but not least, there was fantastic entertainment and delicious food available throughout the day.
