Cooperatives from across North Carolina joined together to show just how much can be accomplish when communities come together to create a Co-Op-A-Fair!

Twenty-five local partners joined Cabot in putting on the Co-op-A-Fair on the historic American Tobacco Campus.  As approximately 2,000 people watched, dozens of cyclists biked in, some having come all the way from Miami and some from Raleigh.

The North Carolina Credit Union League's Team Little Guy rode the entire length of the state with the Tour riders to help bring attention to their fundraising efforts for the Levine Children's Hospital.  Many local credit unions worked together to form a maze of fun and educational activities.  Electric coops had people peddling a bike which lit up two kinds of light bulbs; CFL's and LED and regular incandescent ones to see which was easier to light up.

The Cooperative Council of North Carolina displayed samples of items found in local coops while Weaver Street Market sampled some of the delicious products available from fellow coops.

Towards the end of the day, REI, working in conjunction with the East Coast Greenway, sponsored a service clean-up along the East Coast Greenway.  But this was not totally about coops, as AARP, besides handing out informational materials, sponsored a bouncy house for kids of all ages to enjoy.  They even set aside half an hour where only people over 50 could participate!

Cabot was there with our 3 booths; one with Farmer Mark making curds, one with Jimmy sampling Cheddar s'mores and one with our ever popular photo booth.  To top off this celebration of cooperatives, Mayor Bell joined us to read a city passed resolution formally recognizing the International Year of Cooperatives.
