We launched the 2012 Community Tour on May 12th at Miami's Bicentennial Park on beautiful Biscayne Bay, as part of the Volvo Ocean Race Miami, the only North American stop for this prestigious round the world sailing race.
A colorful local high school marching band led 18 cyclists, including our three who would ride the entire Tour route, into the Park to the applause of hundreds.
The Florida Dairy Farmers highlighted Fuel Up to Play 60 and sampled milk, while this was the beginning of Create the Good's collection of ribbons highlighting how each person played their part in creating community good, something that would be showcased in Portland two months later. United Way also joined us to offer opportunities for Miami area residents to volunteer their hearts, time and skills.
Cabot Creamery Cooperative introduced our wildly popular photo booth and Jimmy Kennedy did a cooking demo of French Toast hearts with Cabot Strawberry Greek Yogurt and sampled his original Cabot cheddar/Equal Exchange cheddar s'mores. As we would at each major stop along the route, we also brought our miniature vat so Farmer Mark Hackett could demonstrate how we make curds and explain the full cheddar cheese making process.
